Pat Garrett (Thomas Mitchell) is the sheriff of Lincoln, New Mexico. His old friend Doc Holliday (Walter Huston) arrives in town while attempting to get back his horse, which is in the possession of Billy the Kid (Jack Buetel). The story twists when Billy and Doc become pals, which strains the friendship between Doc and Pat. The relationship between Doc and Billy gets more complicated when Doc hides Billy at the home of his girlfriend, Rio (Jane Russel), after Billy is shot. Rio falls for Billy, even though he treats her poorly. The action in this film also includes an Indian attack. This movie has received attention lately because of the recent release of "The Aviator" movie, which touches on the controversy created by director Howard Hughes when he designed a figure-enhancing bra for Jane Russel, who played the voluptuous Rio.
